I had the idea that maybe the bobbins of an existing modern wheel might fit the JOS. My guild friend Jennifer collects wheels, so I thought maybe she’d have something the right size. She hit on the EEW Nano bobbins, which are 3D printed. They fit the JOS well enough, and I own a Nano. So I tried a bobbin. It worked!

I am delighted. I didn’t even need to make a new drive band, just adjusted the tension on the mother-of-all.
The JOS wants to spin very fast and very fine. Check this out! It’s wool. Because the wheel spins so fast, the yarn — well, thread, really — is stronger than it looks.

Now that I’ve got a feel for the wheel and more than one bobbin to use, it’s time to try flax!
